[When the video turns on it's to a very displeased looking man, and apparently one who doesn't realize he just triggered the video function. He regardes the screen suspiciously for a few moments before huffing a sigh and just dropping his hand to his side. Everyone gets an exciting view of the dirt of field as he walks.]

This- this is too temperamental for Masyaf. If- [He freezes when something rustles. Oh look, a friendly scarecrow! Malik drops the dreamberry, making the view only of the scarecrow hobbling up. There's the ominous sound of a small blade being unsheathed.] What foul sorcery is this?

[Apparently the scarecrow has some fruit it wants to share, but by Malik's tone it doesn't sound like coming closer will be good for the scarecrow's health.]

[Character name] Malik A-Sayf
[Age] 26
[Canon]Assassin's Creed
[Point in time taken from canon] Shortly after the end of Assassin's Creed

[Background] History here!

[Personality]

Malik is a strong, proud man from the start. He tends towards being rather ornery, even disagreeable when faced with those he does not care for. This is, in part, due to his 'no shit' attitude, as he isn't one to deal with foolishness or trickery. In this way he is a man not afraid to speak his mind, and not afraid to speak up against or stand up against those who he truly believes to be in the wrong. This makes him seem fairly cold to some, though he is fully capable of changing his opinion and, even if he can hold a grudge, he is also is able to let a grudge go.

Despite this strong will Malik adhere and perhaps even bows to the law of the assassin's Creed. He has a deep respect for it's tenets and follows them to the letter, shaping his life around their teachings. He is so invested in them that when Altair begins flagrantly disobeying their code he grows agitated and confrontational, even in the midst of a mission. Even though Altair was higher than him and more talented as an assassin his acts against the Creed Malik refuses to give him respect. While Malik's devotion to the Creed and their master, Al Mualim, is nearly blind he can be reasoned with and his mind can be changed. When Altair asks Malik to look further into the works of their master to find the truth Malik is hesitant but eventually does. When what he finds proves their master's betrayal Malik stands up with Altair against him, despite how 'heart breaking' the revelations are.

As he was raised by the Assassin's Malik is disciplined, his work ethic fairly strong. He tends to be protective of those he cares about, most notably his younger brother. Despite the fact they are both assassins Malik tries to keep Kadar, his brother, from too much dangerous involvement or work higher than his skills. While how much he cares isn't immediately apparent from his rather harsh demeanor it is obvious from this protective streak that he does. When he eventually grows warmer to Altair his disagreeable demeanor lessens considerably and he can be surprisingly supportive and empathetic, willing to talk about forgiveness and the losses he suffered at Solomon's Temple that he blamed Altair for.

For a good deal of the early game Malik is extremely bitter for these losses, the loss of his arm and of his brother, and attacks Altair harshly for them. On that day he lost his only family and his future as an active assassin, something he obviously laments. Before the loss of his arm he was one of the best of the assassins, in league with Altair though he was not at Altair's skill level. He admits to harboring a great deal of jealousy for Altair and his skills, a jealousy that helped blind him during the events of Solomon's temple and helped orchestrate the disaster. It can be assumed before the accident the two were quite competitive, considering their skills and being of the same age group. Being stuck in a Bureau and out of active duty was not an easy transition for Malik, and only compounded his bitterness.

Despite this Malik makes a capable dai, something of an advisor stationed in Jerusalem to aid the assassins on missions there. Even before his accident Malik is fairly wise, his acceptance of the Creed and the ways of the assassins giving him a sort of stability Altair is yet to find. As time progresses in the Bureau he strengthens these skills more, working as a map maker and amassing something of loyalty in some of the assassins, enough at least that they are willing to stand against Al Mualim and with him and Altair when they go to defeat their former master. This 'wisdom' stretches to his ability to eventually forgive Altair as well. Though it's a long, slow process he is willing to concede when Altair makes strides as a person, though grudgingly at first. By the end he can see his own role in the disaster and tells Altair he does not need to ask forgiveness as Altair is not the same man he was before.

[Abilities] Malik was trained as an assassin and in that way he is an excellent fighter. The loss of his arm makes it harder for him and he isn't as skilled as he was in the past, but he is still formidable compared to those without such training. More so he's extremely perceptive, as he states, and is better at planning and exploiting.

It's possible he has the ability to differentiate enemy and friend with 'Eagle Vision' there is no canon evidence he is one of the assassins with this ability, so I think that can be disregarded.

[Other important stuff] none that I can think of!

[Sample post]
[First Person]

[given the nature of his order and being an assassin most of his answers will be vague at best, and some will be outright lies.]

What do you think of your home world?

My "home world?" And what other "worlds" have I visited that would give me differing opinions of my home? I will tell you what I think of my home, it is land with troubles and strengths, much like any other. Ask me of the people if you truly wish to know.

If you could go back home, would you? Why or why not?

I see you enjoy this word, this "home." I go where I am needed, not where I wish, and my matters are my own to dwell upon.

What were you doing before now?

I was a map maker in Jerusalem. Masyaf was my home, and so I returned when asked. [not mentioning all that assassin work he did helping the active agents out]

If you were to describe yourself in one sentence, what would that be?

A man becoming increasing annoyed at having his time wasted with trifles.

If someone provoked or attacked you, what would you do?

Words cut deeper than the sword for those foolish enough to waste their time seeking needless violence. I have no interest in spilling blood for or of such fools.

Do you stand up against authority, go against all odds, and if you could, pierce the heavens with your fighting spirit? If not, would you if you could?

Must all these questions be from such a strange tongue. [SIGH] I am no rebel, no. [pause] But sometimes the right road is the road that takes you against what you know and those you believe in. You must do what is right, despite those who you must turn away from in the process.

You have two options: either save your friend who is hanging from a cliff, or chase after the bad guy who put them in a position. If you choose the former, the bad guy will get away and it will be hard to catch him. If you choose the latter, the cliff will crumble and the friend will fall to the spiky rocks below. What do you do and why?

Save him. This "bad guy" can be trailed, hunted, or found again. One cannot bring a man back from the dead. Losing yourself to rage or the chase is losing your soul in the process. Only an idiot would truly think twice.

[Third Person]

There was a time Malik detested those who claimed they had seen 'strange things' as a way of looking down at those around them. Even in his youth Malik was more mature than many of his peers, perhaps his instinct to raise and protect his younger brother grounded his flights of fancy or rage, but even with this maturity he bristled when anyone superior only in age and not in skill looked down their nose at him.

It was funny how things changed, people would say, and though Malik did not find these changes particularly amusing he had to admit to the irony in his position. As he walked down the street to buy new quills and parchment eyes would glance at his one empty sleeve where an arm should have been, would glance down in so many ways it used to make bitterness well up in his throat. But now there was no bitterness, there was not even anger, because Malik A-Sayf, once a mature, hot headed boy had seen strange things in his twenty six years of life.

He had seen a man he and his order revered rise and fall, he had seen a man who was once his competition die only to be born again, a new man who brought safety and peace with him even if he had once been the bitter target of all of Malik's blame. He had seen novices scurry through his bureau, he had seen his bureau change back to Maysaf and the steady rebuilding of an order. He had seen the world itself burst out of a metal ball, the lands farther than any eye could ever see represented in golden light.

As he walked into the shop it's keeper smiled at him as he turned, looking to his eyes instead of his sleeve. There was a time Malik would have respected the man for that, but now he learned to judge a man on such a simple thing was as foolish as those who judged him for a limb he no longer had.

"Ah, welcome, welcome- it has been a long while since your last visit. Back from your trip?" The shopkeeper asked as Malik found what he needed on a shelf.

"For now." Malik answered, placing a small box on the counter. After all, there was much work left to be done and far stranger things to be seen, if the strange contours of the Apple were any indication.

[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] Mostly I wanted to app post-game Malik somewhere that was a good size and Somarium was the first game I found while digging around. I've never played a premise like this before and I'd like to give it a try too!

[Which rule was your favorite and why?] I like the language rule, mostly because most rps I am in don't really address the language barrier there should be and it can get super confusing. I also like that your character can actually speak their native tongue/whatever else they know for privacy without insta-translation coming in to play.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] Just looking around honestly.
[Any questions?] No!

Character Information:

Character Name: Malik A-Sayf
Age: 26
Canon: Assassin's Creed
Appearance: Malik is, judging from the game at least, of average height and build. He has dark hair and skin, a fairly static expression and not much in the way of unique physical characteristics. The one he does have is his lack of a left arm, cut off a little above the elbow. He commonly wears the dai robes of the assassins, like so.

Personality: Malik is a strong, proud man from the start. He tends towards being rather ornery, even disagreeable when faced with those he does not care for. Background: Malik's history and game actions (spoilers!)

Canon Point: Right after Altair assassinates Majd Addin. It's at a point where Malik is still bitter and wary of Altair, but he is beginning to accept Altair is starting to change. It's also when Malik begins to shift as a character and become more at peace with himself, though there is still a fairly long road ahead. I think it's a good place personality-wise, not too far along but enough that he'll be somewhat more flexible socially.

Special Abilities: Malik was trained as an assassin and in that way he is an excellent fighter. The loss of his arm makes it harder for him and he isn't as skilled as he was in the past, but he is still formidable compared to those without such training. Sect: Civilian! Though I think he might join the Jedi eventually?

Job: Probably a merchant for now, specializing in maps and such.

Samples:

First Person: [When the video clicks on someone looks pretty harried! He keeps his expression level despite this, staring hard at the camera like it might just be dangerous.]

This... item, it carries voices, does it not? But where?

[He hesitates] This sorcery is not my primary concern. Perhaps I should ask instead, where is this place to start.

Third Person: Whenever Malik looked up his head felt like it was whirling around, like the air was rushing out into that deep emptiness that seemed to stretch on forever. Space, people said, not only said but said casually, as if this environment was natural. The first day Malik could barely make himself leave the room he found himself in, too bewildered, too shaken by opening his eyes to an entirely new world or knowledge and appearance.

They spoke into the strange metal contraptions and Malik was sure if he touched it again it would speak. It took a day to realize that voices somehow travelled through them, and another to tentatively listen to some of what the voices said. The day after that he travelled out of the room some, waited, listened, tried to make sense of what he heard.

On the fourth day he finally turned the contraption on himself in a small fit of annoyance.

"Impossible." He muttered to himself at the window, not looking up but straight ahead. He had heard of magic, witchcraft, even artifacts and old wives tales that seemed merely dull ramblings compared to this new area, this... whatever it was. Only a few moments before he woke up he had been ushering Altair out the door. Was this death? With a pang to his gut he looked at a crowd from his window, willing himself not to see Kadar travelling amongst them. For a split second he felt the fingers of his left had twitch before his body remembered nothing was there.

With a huff he turned, sitting down next to the metal thing that held people's voices and passed them on, carefully pressing at the buttons until one in particular seemed to light the entire box up, beckoning him to speak.

So he did.

Anything Else: Blue milk and Jolee Bindo!
